Since 1998 I do a series of watercolors, always on graph paper 15 x 21 cm. Most works in the series consists of several watercolors where each is a variation of the previous, so that the group show a transformation, a color variation, a vibration. Normally the last watercolor matches the first piece so that it forms a loop, and could be mounted starting by any of the watercolors that compose it. The laborious process of realization is, however, guided by simple rules (play with the grid of the sheet, each item that appears in the watercolor last for three sheets as the invariant that gives continuity), rules that binds to improvise and introduce randomness into the process. But there are also individual ones.

The first of the group watercolors, lichtzwang (from green to vermell) was worked for 3 months and shows the change of color in the garden of the study in autumn. As the other, is an exercise in color and time concentration.

These watercolors have the generic title Lichtzwang (light constraint in German) which in turn is the title of a book of poems by Paul Celan. Lichtzwang today consists of over 400 watercolors. When one of the watercolors is exhibited or sold an identical copy is made (by hand) so that the complete set remains intact.

For three years I did this work exclusively, and was at this time and through these watercolors that catalyzed most of interests and issues later tried by other means: color, space, time, structure, movement, modularity, variation, permutation, narrative, loop ...
